What is FNP?
Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) is a national home visiting service for first-time young families. In Lewisham we work with mothers up to 22 years old at pregnancy until your child is 1-2 years old. The Family Nurse Partnership programme started in Lewisham in January 2010. The FNP team consists of: a Supervisor, five Family Nurses and one Administrator. Family nurses are health visitors or midwives with many years experience of working with families and young children.
Our aim is to support you and your baby:
- To have a healthy pregnancy
- Improve your child’s health and development including: parent-child attachment, breastfeeding, immunising your baby, child development and school readiness
- Plan your future and achieve your aspirations including: improve your self-confidence, mental health, anxiety, housing and stopping smoking
You will first meet your family nurse following a referral from your midwife who will have discussed the FNP service to you if they feel you would benefit from working with them. Your family nurse will meet you when you are pregnant and you will meet regularly, at times that suit you and your baby. We visit families at home or see them in Children’s Centres, GP practices or other community locations.
